I don’t blog about running much anymore. NOT because no one cares, but because there’s not much to blog about.
The Achilles injury I wrote about over a year ago still haunts me. I ran a 4:52 mile, a 17:00 road 5k, a 36:00 road 10k, and an 80:30 half marathon in the past 6 months. I can run 20-30 miles a week. That’s the shape I can get in.
The past few weeks I’ve been doing heel drops every day hoping to improve my condition, which worked for Jeff. But I’ve been leaving out one important part – I’m still running, which isn’t helping.
With the virus in full flight, and more importantly, all spring races canceled / postponed, there’s no reason to maintain my average fitness.
Before, I felt obligated to stay in okay shape and show up at races since I’m part of the Philly Runner Track Club, and they value having as many of their singlets as possible at races. But with no races, now’s my time to recover!!!
So here you have it. This is my commitment to trying to heal. And if that happens, I will be running impressive times (for me) in the future.
If I try and it doesn’t work, or I recover and 100 miles later I’m hurt again, then I give up. I’ll hang up the spikes and become a hobby jogger. But I’m giving it one last shot.
What’s worse, an Achilles injury or flat foot?
