The fact that I enjoy Jersey Shore taps into the human psyche that I’m not prepared to explain on a deep enough level to feel comfortable about it. However, I will give a few thoughtful insights into dynamics that most people will overlook.

  • The cast are veterans at having a film crew following them around at all times. This is paramount to understanding  the allure of the show. They know they have to be entertaining. How do you act natural while knowing that your every movement is captured. I think they are actually pretty good at this by now.
  • The cast from the early years were poor. The cast from this season *should* be rich, but who really knows. Pauly D has a gold chain that is probably worth 20k. Maybe 200k. How the hell do I know.

  • The Situation is on probation for tax evasion so you know he’s in the hole money wise. He is looking to propose to his girlfriend and is looking at rings that are 30k and you KNOW this guy doesn’t have 30k. He’s lucky not to be incarcerated.
  • Watching Snooki pick up stripper’s 1 dollar bills and put them in her purse shows she might not have that much cash. Their actual life and watching how they act in these situations is the reality angle that makes it entertaining. It’s like, “you know that this is your one shot since the last season to make money again so you better take advantage of it. Picking up 1’s ain’t going to do it.”

  • The plastic surgery is absurd. These girls went from normal people to getting botox and they can’t even talk like normal people because their faces don’t stretch. When they talk, you can hear the strain on their face.

  • Alcohol is what makes the show keep going. The Situation doesn’t drink anymore so you can see how a normal person would behave vs everyone else. The episode had Vinnie and Pauly getting black out drunk and the Situation had to physically take them back. I liked watching how blacked out people look on camera because I never see it on myself.
  • At one point Snookie said, “we are the worst people”. I have to imagine she was referring to whoring out for money and having all of these people envy them for no good reason. What do they have to offer? They aren’t particularly good looking. They aren’t bright. They are the identification of “normal” people who get followed around by cameras. I also imagine she was referring to being a “mother’ and doing this show.

Hooter’s girl

This show is a fabulous social experiment being such a dumb show. I wouldn’t argue it’s a good show. You’d have to be an idiot to do so. I enjoy watching these ridiculous people, knowing what they’ve been through, and watching how they act. The cast is like, “Pauly D hasn’t banged anyone since we got here!” If you go back to older episodes he was bringing back girls every night. This dude has probably slammed hundreds of women in his 30+ years on Earth. He got a Hooters waitress pregnant in Las Vegas after knowing her for 1 day. Then this show puts on this production of trying to find him a girl and it’s completely awkward. A train wreck of an idea and television show. Even with that, watching this shitty idea unfold is glorious and I don’t know why.
