It didn’t use to be this way.

When I wake up in the morning and take my first steps, my body aches. It’s like the tin man moving around without any oil.

When I go for a run, it takes a solid 10 minutes before I can move like I want to. If I wanted to run fast to start, it would be in slow motion. This is attributed to getting older. I’ve never been a stretcher, and perhaps that would help, but it seems like the warm up phase becomes more important as you age. I’m about to make a weak correlation to how this is an analogy to fantasy football.

Fantasy Football

FF is 50% luck and 50% skill. This balance sways from individual to individual and league to league. For instance, one team I have has the most points out of my 4 teams and is 0-2. Another team has the 6th most points and is 2-0. FF is not a skill contest for the most part. Luck in who you play week to week has more to do with “winning”. All you can do is put out the best line up you think you can and hope for the best.

These comments are made after week 2. FF goes for 13 weeks and then the playoffs. Here’s the rub, people get lazy. Enthusiasm for FF is at an all time high. Owners are spending their money. Picking up FA’s. Talking trades. This doesn’t last forever. This early part of the season is the warm up. You want to get off to a strong start, but it isn’t where championships are won.

This is where I’m going to make the point that a league full of owners who warm up and then don’t sprint to the finish line is where TC makes his bucks. Do I think I’m the best owner in my leagues? Of course. If you don’t, then you should expect to lose and if you expect to lose, why play the game? Which is the point that I should be making to myself with Draftkings because I don’t think I’m the best and I also expect to lose. Which shows there is still a place for playing the game and losing. However, I’ve made this point many many time before, it’s not about having the best record in Fantasy. It’s about eeking into the playoffs and having the best team throughout. Warming up is needed, but you better be ready for the full sprint.
