I’m already looking forward to Bill’s response to this post.
I bought a new table from Amazon two weeks ago for $200. After 75 minutes it was fully assembled.
Then, two days ago, I noticed this crack. It looks worse in person.
Is this bad enough to make a fuss about? Do I write a review? Do I ask for a refund? I’m able to return this through Feb 17. The crack doesn’t really effect it’s performance as a table and I like the way the set up looks in the apartment for what it’s worth.
In my mind, there’s no way I’m returning it. It’s too much effort and the problem isn’t that bad. But it’s annoying that this happened so quickly, and if the table is useless in two months I will actually be pissed.
I might write a review on Amazon. I bought it because it had a lot of good reviews!
But even that I’m not sure of because maybe the reason it cracked is because I tightened all the legs to much (I was making them REALLY tight until reading the instructions which said DON’T over tighten). So what do I do? “3.5/5 stars. Looks good, easy to assemble. Wood cracked after two weeks, still usable”.
What would you do, Bill?
Just completed a 6 week episode with Sears Auto Centers. I bought a “lifetime wheel alignment” at the Auto Center in Willow Grove, which is now closed. So, I want a refund. My first call to Customer Service put me in contact with the Sears Auto Center in Media (next closest). I was told that I could come to their store, that’s it, no refund. After 9 more calls to Customer Service, the last 5 (each 1 week apart) promising resolution in 48 hours, I received a call from “Sears”. We settled on a $100 refund. I did get 1 alignment ($89) already. The original warranty cost $189, so I was satisfied.
In your case, it all depends on what you want. You could contact Amazon and settle for a partial refund. If you’re not satisfied the first time, call again. Or, you could return the table to Kohls. They will send it back free of charge.
“Amazon Returns at Kohl’s is now available at our more than 1,100 stores nationwide. Customers can now visit their local Kohl’s store to return eligible Amazon items, without a box or label, for a free return. Kohl’s packages and sends returned items to Amazon returns centers on behalf of customers. It’s free, convenient and available to everyone”.
The key word here may be “eligible”.
I caddied for a guy a few months ago who had a similar experience. He bought some kind of water dispenser that cost about $300. It arrived with a dent. He “argued” with Amazon and they finally decided that, rather than return it, he could just KEEP it AND get a FULL REFUND. He put a band aid on the dent. Now when people see the band aid, he has a great story to tell them.
Amazon, despite their unscrupulous behavior, IMO actually has some above average customer service.
My first step would be to open up an Amazon chat window and live chat with a rep (it’s easier to Google “Amazon Live Chat” rather than navigating through their website or app).
Explain what happened but not why it happened; omit the user error part. Ask them to send a new table and for a refund for the hassle. This can be Amazon credit, a credit amount back to the paying card, or a couple months of free Prime.
FYI, working from home en mass has really put pressure on Amazon, and mostly all Prime deliveries are not delivered in 2 days. If you have Prime and receive a delivery > 2 days, your can open the live chat to notify them and they will credit you months of Prime.
