I take stances within this blog because it makes for better content. There will always be some level of serious in what I’m writing about, but I might only truly care 50%. Life is too short to take too much too serious but this is an issue I’m 100% against. If I had to give you 3 of my core beliefs it’s democracy, meritocracy, and freedom. When you start to infringe on these core beliefs, I’m going to tell you that you’re wrong.
Removing YouTube Dislikes
Here’s the most recent tweet from YouTube that it is removing the dislike count on videos to “prevent harassment”.
“Groups of viewers are targeting a video’s dislike button to drive up the counts turning it into a game. It’s usually because they don’t like the creator or what they stand for. That’s a big problem in YouTube’s mission is to give everyone a voice.“
The rest of the explanation says that the count doesn’t matter. People will watch the videos either way. Our data scientists back this up.
Let’s view a few videos that have gotten significant down votes and see why this decision may be coming into effect.
Ruling From Above
Silicon Valley controls so much of what we, the people, consume that they oversee how people think. When people start to think differently than how they want you to think, they will try to control this. The video’s above all have a left wing narrative at heart and it’s clear that many people in this country don’t agree with it. When the White House videos all get downvoted to oblivion because democracy is talking, it shouldn’t be punished. Here’s a suggestion for YouTube, each user can only downvote 1 time if it’s getting steam-moved! It’s so obvious that you can’t mistake this decision for any other reason other than they don’t like the outcomes. This is not going to go well.
When the Levee Breaks
Facebook had to change their shitty name to another shitty name because of all of their shitty scrupulous practices (you can’t even search for the name “Kyle Rittenhouse” on Facebook). Alphabet is making a mess of YouTube with this decision. Twitter removes accounts it disagrees with (see Project Veritas). This is not democracy. This is censoring opinions that they don’t want you to see. It’s sad, un-American, and it won’t work. It’s going to crash and the people will see to it by not using their products and finding platforms they prefer. Combine that with this administration who still can’t come to grips with Covid, can’t control inflation, and can’t figure out how to get containers through ports which isn’t rocket science. Global emissions are the most important task on Earth!
The reason why I’m truly upset is because the Government’s plan is to print money, waste it on an unmotivated workforce, and tax the people who work hard more. It’s the wrong value system and it won’t work.
YouTube removing dislikes means we are not a free country any more I agree. Completely reasonable take here. Without YouTube dislikes we are basically North Korea. What would George Washington say if he saw that they took away YouTube dislikes? It’s the foundation of democracy.
What are we talking about man?
I’m going to have to disagree with you here. The 1st amendment is freedom of speech. This allows you to share your opinion without recourse. A subtle change like this is infringing on the 1st amendment. If you can’t see this, I feel sorry for the world you would like to live in.
The first amendment doesn’t apply to thumbs downs on YouTube but let’s entertain this idea for a moment. If YouTube disabling dislikes is wrong, your solution I would guess would be for the government to step in and tell them how to run their website. Now we have the government controlling the internet. China does this, very democratic and free.
I was mad too when MySpace let you change it from top 8 to top 16 because I didn’t have that many friends but I wasn’t about to invoke the bill of rights. Freedom and free markets would be letting them do whatever they want yes? And if the people don’t like it they will be forced to change back because people will leave.
Stay with me here because your comments are off the map. I don’t want more government. In this scenario, what you’re not grasping, IN MY OPINION, is the government is pressuring YouTube into taking the dislikes down. They don’t want to see public opinion about their shitty policies or messages. Thus, they are removing the dislike button which is a display of public opinion. This is removing the people’s voice, ie, freedom of speech. Of course YouTube can do whatever they want in a free market. MY OPINION is that the government is not allowing this to be a free market. If you don’t agree with my take on the scenario, that’s fine, but you’re comments are missing all points I’m making. Clearly my take is over your head.
