Supposedly I’ll be receiving $1200 from the Donald.
I do not need this money.
I’ve read enough about the hard times people are going through and I understand that this $1200 is not meant for me – the government just doesn’t have a good way of knowing that.
I’m also not writing this to toot my own horn and say “Look at me! I’m so nice and want to give this money away!“
But I genuinely want to donate this. To people who need it more than me.
How do I give this money away properly? I’m always wary of donating without knowledge because I’ve heard some organizations use it on ‘administrative costs’ or whatever which isn’t really what you’re going for.
So help me. What are the ‘best’ places to give money?
I could probably do the research myself – a quick Google search comes up with a dozen or so nonprofits helping out – but I’ll be lazy and defer to my blog readers first, in case they have inside info or know of smaller, local ones that could use it.
Food banks are being hit particularly hard right now because of demand and all of the insane panic buying. Philabundance would be a good place to look.
Not a sexy pick, but I read a story today that made me particularly sick. Apparently Philly prison COs have been forcing incarcerated mothers to write goodbye letters to their children because the virus has turned their incarceration into a death sentence. Philly Community Bail Fund helps people post bail. Either way, two solid local options.
I will always suggest NEDA.
Quarantine for obvious reasons is not a productive space for most at points in recovery. Isolation can be pretty insidious and particularly dangerous. Even for people with families and children. NEDA is a vastly underfunded org, especially given the scope and scale of people they advocate for.

Give it to some one you know personally, that won’t use it to buy lottery tickets or bet on WWE. Give it to a Boy’s and Girl’s Club in your neighborhood. Buy lottery tickets or bet on WWE.
I hear you can get great odds on a Hulk Hogan – Ultimate Warrior Tag Team at SummerSlam vs Covid 19. They’ve decided to come out of retirement and risk it all against the invisible enemy. I’m a bit torn whether Hulk’s infamous leg drop will do much damage as he lands butt first on the mat. I’m fairly certain though that the Ultimate Warrior will have enough pizzazz and endurance to eventually land the ultimate splash. Covid takes a long time to be effective so this match could last years. I’ll take the humans.
