I like Levi’s jeans. They are the right price for comfort, fit, and look. I’ve tried many different vendors (Peter Millar for golf pants but not jeans), and I can usually find a problem in the cut or color. I have a pair of dark blue khaki’s by Levi’s that I like a lot as well. I like jeans to fit snug around my legs and I use a belt to hold up the 32/32 (eternal Seinfeld) size. I own about 3 “going out” jeans and then I wear a smattering of work pants that are of lesser quality. It’s important to get pants right in your fit because it’s about 50% of the look.

Sweat pants have their place right next to mesh shorts. When you’re watching TV on your couch. When you’re getting the paper from the driveway (that’s a dated reference but I watch Tony Soprano retrieve it every episode in his robe). I’ll even allow totally hungover going to brunch. Kids wear them to sporting practices. Other than those few times, sweat pants are not suitable public attire. The amount of effort to wear pants is minimal and the positive appearance gain is maximal. Think Regina George when she got fat.

I’ve noticed I’m one of the only people who wear jeans to the bowling and golf league. People typically are not wearing sweatpants (some are), but they wear the athleisure pants. The pants I’d wear when I golf outside. Considering 95% of the people are wearing these, I’m the odd man out in jeans. I don’t understand why because it’s not like you can’t perform these activities at a high level in jeans. You’d say, “but aren’t you more comfortable in silky pants?” No. I don’t think so.

Indoor golf and bowling are not athletic. It’s true I almost broke a full sweat rolling the other day, but that was a practice session where I was getting 6 games in an hour. I don’t need to wear “more” comfortable pants to perform these activities at a high level. The fact that I still out perform most people in jeans shows that these aren’t athletes deserved of wearing these types of pants anyway. When you had a kid on your team in basketball who wore sweat pants to the game you KNEW they sucked. This is the reverse where people dress the part and still suck. I don’t dress the part and prove you don’t need the look to play the part. In fact, you need to earn those pants.

Do I really care about this point? Not so much. Only that I noticed that I was a 1% in jeans. That number is way too low for these leagues. I promise there are no Jason Belmonte’s or Scottie Scheffler’s in these groups.
