It’s scary to think about death. The best warriors would consider themselves dead already before they fought so that there was no fear on the battlefield. Fighting to survive is usually the best way to fail/die (i.e. when Christian Bale had to make that jump without the harness). Our bodies are conditioned from evolution to have the instinct to survive. Since none of us are equal in our abilities (despite liberal thinking), some people are better than others at navigating life to avoid death.
So why are we scared to die? Uncertainty. Pain. Regrets. Entering into nothingness has a way of demoralizing human beings. This is why we have a make believe heaven and hell. Heaven is an atmosphere where you shotgun beers and play the 18th at Pebble Beach over and over again. Hell is where you’re chained in 150 degree heat and a dom is torturing your nut sack until you desire another type of hell with only nipple clamps. No one wants to think that when they die their nuts are in eternal torment. The thought of “being good for goodness sake” is not Santa Claus teachings, but to avoid the Antichrist.
People die. To quote the Circle of Life; “Nants ingonyama bagithi baba, Sithi uhm ingonyama, Nants ingonyama bagithi baba, Sithi uhhmm ingonyama, Ingonyama, Siyo Nqoba, Ingonyama.” Which brings me to the question, why are so many people useless if they shouldn’t be scared of death? We are a slothful nation. The brightest minds carry the weakest on their backs. Elon. Bezos. Ronald McDonald. We’re not getting better either. Obesity. Lack of Schooling. Addiction. The great part is that it’s not too late to turn it around. Instead of worrying about Covid 19, why don’t people start worrying about personal responsibility? The government is requesting submittal from the people. Stay at home, add 50 lbs, be docile. Then the people start saying, “I enjoy this. The Gov’t is paying me to do nothing.” The line has to be drawn in the sand by the people because in America, the government works for the people and not vice versa.
What should you be doing, you ask? Be the best you can be. Stop making excuses for why you’re overweight or why the lawn isn’t cut. This doctrine isn’t coming done from the hill as gospel, I have as many faults as the rest of society, but I’ll continue to work on improvement until life catches up with me.
I’m just finishing “Atlas Shrugged” – its part novel, part philosophy textbook. Apparently a whole new school of thought opened up after she wrote it. I don’t know if you’d enjoy reading it – lots of long speeches, but you’d agree with her views; they match your blog almost exactly.
Is the book about white supremacy?
I’ve read it twice and it’s my favorite book. The lifestyle depicted by Rand as the proper way to live is marvelous. Combine that with her opinion on Government and it should be taught in school.
That class should exist. (I suppose it already does somewhere) And they should have to read Alan Watts alongside her work and discuss. Or anything where there is comparable connections and a different resulting viewpoint.
Some people find it scary to look into a mirror. Some people find it safer.
