My lease is ending at the Carson which is a “luxury” apartment complex on 5th and Spring Garden. Both of my closet door handles fell off completely and my shower leaked on day 1 that I puttied without even notifying management. Aside from minor grievances, it’s not bad.
The deal was the first two months were free and then a 12 month lease at $2,450. It averaged out to be about $2,100 a month. For renewal, they are asking for $2,450 for another 12 months. I replied saying I’d do a 6 month term for that price and they countered with $300 premium for month to month. I’m not doing that out of principal.
I replied back saying I’d do 10 months to January 1st. If they don’t agree, I’m out. I’m 99% sure they will agree to it. Why they didn’t agree to the 6 is the better question. Or even better yet, why didn’t I write I was walking then? I aim for compromise and both sides winning makes me happy. I don’t want to move my shit is my weakness in this negotiation. I have a house 3 blocks away that I improved to live there again if I want and then I have to get a place in Newtown. I can’t have 3 places. Extending the lease only prolongs me having to find a new place and moving. If I could go back to this morning, I would have said 6 months. If they agreed to that, then I could justify writing this post. As such, you’re taking negotiation advice from a 2 month powerhouse.
