Mayor’s Cup 2024
What is the Mayor’s Cup? Does the mayor attend? Do we call wear cups? These were the normal questions I’m asking myself before getting involved.
In reality, this is a multi-race competition for running clubs. Joe, my sister’s husband, works with IBX and hosts a team. He asked the Stortz boys if they wanted to participate. We all did.
Sam did the 5 mile road race and Jeff and I did the 10k. The race is held around Belmont Plateau and weaves through the park / woods. I hadn’t done a race since the Frostbite 5 miler where I underperformed with 5 six minute miles. It was one of the first times in my life where I felt that I was aging and it’s all downhill from here. This race changed that tune for me…slightly.
As you can see, my 40 year old self beat a few younger participants and I felt I ran well. I didn’t get totally gassed throughout the entire race and was able to do 6 miles competitively. The 8 minute mile times are tough to judge how fast it would be on a road race as this was completely through trails jumping over roots and “s’ shaped turns. All in all, it was a fun race and I’d like to thank Joe for the invitation.
