Back in my heyday, I was a big ‘challenges‘ guy. Always looking for creative ways to display my alpha qualities like running and blacking out. Chicks couldn’t get enough of it.
When I blacked out for the 24-24-24 and was spitting up tacos all over myself, my girlfriend at the time threatened to break up with me.
But it’s been years since those days. I haven’t considered doing a challenge in forever. Until now…
The Bicentennial is a challenge where you have 7 days to:
- Run 100 miles
- Drink 100 beers
I’ve always wanted to do this, but it’s been a pipe dream for the last 10 years because I literally couldn’t run 100 miles in a week without getting hurt.
BUT IN THE LAST 7 DAYS, I’ve run 77 miles (kind of cheating because that includes two long runs), and it feels normal. Gutting it out to 100 really wouldn’t be that much of a stretch.
The real issue is my drinking. I’ve been a binge drinker most of my life, but the last couple of years I’ve matured. I drink less now, but more often. Two glasses of boxed wine. Hammered. I haven’t blacked out once in 2023 (kind of). So 14 beers a day would be a big change. I would honestly need to train to pull it off.
The BIGGEST obstacle, which I’ve written about before, is how do I literally take 7 days to make this happen? Can I do this while working a full week? Maybe take a few days off? What would I even do on a day I took off from work? Wake up, run 15 miles, then just start boozin’ at noon watching TV? Am I too old for this?
All good questions, but the one answer I DO have is that it would make great blog content. A week of posting every day. It’s been so long since I’ve done something like this. The running renaissance might coincide with a challenge renaissance.
I will be update if this actually seems feasible, but if it is, I’m going to really go for it.
Please don’t!
So excited for you to take a week off for this challenge instead of our vacation together 🙃
Take a week off, come to jersey, and we’ll do it together.
There are plenty of girls in the world, don’t make decisions to make them happy.
