Sam, Adam, Evan and I played golf at Raven’s Claw on Saturday from the white tee boxes. I shot an 80. I’ve yet to break 80 in my life but it will happen during this golf season. I’m hitting the ball straighter than I ever had and with more consistency. This was a double bogey free round which I’m relatively proud of. Aside from some atrocious putting at times, I’ve put together solid ball striking for 2 straight rounds now with only 1 lost ball. When I shot a 92 on Friday, I had 47 total putts. I was happy to recover from that round with a low round of 80 putting a bit more normal.

I’d be remiss not to bring up my playing partners. Adam shot a 40 on the front to have a 1 stroke lead at the turn and his 85 was dwarfed by my round. He has some comments on our standard bet that he may or may not share. Evan and Sam had a nail biter that came down to the final hole where Sam’s double ousted Evan’s quad for a 1 shot win at 105. These scores are starting to come down from these guys. They’ll be breaking 100 soon.

For me, it’s nice to feel like progress is being made towards my golf game. There was hardly a break during the winter because we played most weekends so there was no “off” time. I had a few rounds in the low 80’s during that time period, but with the weather getting nicer, it’s only a matter of time before I break it. My birdie % is miniscule and once I start putting my approach shots closer and becoming a better putter, those will give my game a few higher margin of error. Oddly my distance is hardly a selling point of my game anymore, but I’ve traded that for putting the ball in play. I’m sure you’ll get another boring golf post soon.
