I listen to less music every year than the year prior. Partly due to the increasing of quality podcasts, but partly due to decreasing quality of new music.
The four piece rock band is on death’s door. For old timers like me, that’s a bummer.
Here’s Coachella 2005 vs 2025. Aside from Green Day who’s still stumbling around with their dicks out 30 years after Dookie, there aren’t any notable bands. It’s almost entirely solo acts of pop, hip hop, electronic, etc.

The only new music I’ve been genuinely excited for recently has been Twenty One Pilots, Hozier, and Mt. Joy.
Enter Goose
I’ve been a Goose fan for a few years. Last time I saw them live they did a 27 minute Tumble that collectively exploded the Mann Center’s mind. They’re now one of the top Jam Bands in the world, which I KNOW, isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But they released a surprise studio album – Chain Yer Dragon – a few days ago, and it kicks ass.
Don’t be put off if you don’t like jam bands. The album front to back is excellent, literally not one bad song, and if you feel like new music generally sucks, give these few songs a listen.
Royal
Super catchy, this is the song that will grab you on the first listen. The jam to close will not be everyone’s favorite
Madalena
The one chance at a radio single. They just performed it on Fallon’s Tonight Show. Beautiful song.
Mr. Action
My more-jammy-though-still-not-that-jammy choice. Also super catchy and the solo up to the last chorus is phenomenal.
Boooo. Persona 749 and Petey are good!
Persona 749 songs Billy, Politician, and Bad Translation are good.
Peteys new album is solid. Favorite song is Ask Someone Else or The Milkman. Lean Into Life is my favorite song of his and probably top 5 favorite song all time!!!!!!
Persona 749 sounds like Wet Leg if they were guys.
