YouTube Red is $9.99 a month. There is no reason to waste your life watching to skip ads anymore. You have no choice.
2 Life Lessons
Time is more valuable than money
Quality is worth paying for
Do I think you’re a sap if you listen to ads on Spotify or Pandora? Probably. You’d have to show me your bank account and how $9.99 is far too much to afford OR you could make the argument that you don’t use if frequently. If you 1) have money 2) use it often, you should be opening the wallet. No excuses.
Ads are wastes of time. When I go to YouTube and they show me an ad on seemingly every single video I want to watch, I want to blow my head off.
Have you watched the episode of Black Mirror where you earn credit by biking and you skip ads by spending credits? Our life is becoming that. You will be brainwashed by ads if you don’t avoid it by paying money. Don’t fight this. If you do, you’re going to lose in life. Ads are not all bad, it’s only you can’t be forced to watch them every time you want to watch Natural Selection 2.
You suck it up and pay the $9.99 and give Google more money. You shouldn’t like doing it, but there are a lot of parts of life you aren’t supposed to like. Using a public restroom. Sitting in traffic. Getting the middle seat on an airplane. Listening and watching ads should top your list. They are precious seconds that are being evaporated by a greedy corporation who wants you to spend your hard earned dollars on their shitty product. Rebel by giving your money to Google who has the better product and service. If I had to bet who was going to take over the world, that shitty product or Google, I’m telling your I’d at least be able to make the argument that I support their cause for the greater good of mankind.

I am curious how this dynamic will shift the advertising market. The long-standing prevailing concept has been: “Pay us and we will create an advert to get you exposure.” With the notion of the advert becoming a “nuisance” to users – companies must be in a complicated spot. Who is more vital to their success: advertising revenue or happy users? How does allowing the function to “bump” ads change the cost-model for advertising? I would be furious if my company spent a ton of $ on developing, creating and intelligently placing ads on a service, paid for it – then the service gives the user the option to opt out of viewing the ad.
No user really wants to see adverts anymore. The availability of information today essentially makes them useless. If you are looking for a new razor, it is doubtful an independent ad is going to sway you to a purchase. You will do your own research on what razor fits you best, and purchase accordingly. I think we are witnessing the slow devaluation of advertising as a “currency” for promoting your product or service.
