I pulled a Forrest Gump last night and somehow wound up shaking Isiah Thomas hand.

Steve found his way into some box seats to the Sixers game and invited me to go which I gladly accepted. While we were watching the game next to Spike Eskin (who I don’t think I saw cheering at any point of the game), I started looking around at other boxes. I spotted one of my longtime friends and texted him “I’m 5 boxes over”. He wrote “come say hello”. I went over to his box and the door was closed which was odd so I told him it was closed. He stopped over our box and said he had a few ball players in his box if I wanted to stop over.

I go over and there are 3 human towers as I walk in. NBD. I was offered a beer and we hung out in the box catching up. My friend introduced me to his father in law who was sitting next to Isiah. Isiah half stands up and says hello and shakes my ice cold hand from the beer I was holding. I didn’t know what to say so I think I muttered, “nice to meet you” like I had no idea who I was meeting. I didn’t have any witty comment and the whole experience flashed by. To me it felt like these guys want to be treated like normal people and not like everyone is a fan.

We parted ways at halftime and I went back to my box with a cool story. For the 15 minutes I was in the other box, it’s not as enjoyable as you may think. The guys in that box are into the game but their not “into” the game. It’s like second nature to them. I have a better time being me with my friends and not worrying about what people are worrying about. Either way though, it was fun.
