Jeff and I were having a conversation with a 75 year old man who we do business with and he said the title of this post to us. At the time, it sounded like a nice compliment. After thinking about it further, it is a bit unusual.
What does that mean? Couldn’t he have said he was proud of us? Did he have to become our dad? Did saying it like that mean more than a standard I’m proud of you?

Then I started thinking, is he more proud of our accomplishments than our own dad? How proud is this guy of us? Maybe when you become 75 you just put yourself in the position of a father to the rest of the world. I can’t imagine saying to Jude, my nephew, if I was your dad, I’d be so proud of you. I’d just say, “I’m super proud of you.”
Further, in a car ride with a business associate, he said, “you guys have a big business…” I replied saying, “it’s not really that big.” He said, “all the Greeks would look at what you’ve accomplished and give you respect.”
Ok.
These two comments this week have me taking a step back and re-assessing what’s going on. Are we building a special business? We have older statemen of the trade telling us we’re doing great. It’s part of the reason I haven’t been posting I suppose. The business is requesting the time.
This doesn’t make me feel warm and fuzzy inside as much as it makes me want to keep pushing. Showing the world how a family business doesn’t back down from the soulless corporate billionaires.
I do expect to start posting again. Sorry for the delay.
