It seems like ancient history now, but I wrote this post back in February saying that I’m committing to running fast this year.
Less than a week after that post my Achilles gave out after running a 16:12 5k and the Alumni Mile where Drew SMOKED me. My Achilles problem boiled over and I can’t run more than 3-4 days a week, let alone any workouts. It’s been that way for the last 6 months.
I’ve given varying degrees of effort into recovery but haven’t seen much in the way of results.
So tomorrow I’m running my first race since the Alumni Mile – the Philly 10k. A steady diet of 20 mile weeks and getting hammered last night does not bode well for my time, but I think it’s important to be willing to race even when you know you’re not in great shape.
A GREAT race would be sub 35, a bad race would be 37+, but I don’t want to get hung up on the actual result. I just want to go out conservatively and enjoy racing again.
