Yesterday I received an email from the “Losers Pool” league commissioner asking if I wanted to do a 4 way chop where each survivor gets $2,267 dollars each. I replied back that I’ll think about it.

Chopping

There are a few reasons to chop:

  • You need the money
  • You’re at a disadvantage
  • It’s so much money that walking away with nothing is preposterous

Any other reasons I forgot? In this scenario I don’t need the money, and I since I have Carolina left, I don’t think I’m at a disadvantage. Combine that with I’d guess I know more about football than the 3 other yokels, why should I chop? Is there a possibility I get knocked out 1st? Of course. That’s the risk you accept if it happens and then you don’t feel bad about it.

Money is Not the Only Prize

Do I care more about the money or the pride of winning? Winning 8k outright still wouldn’t put me in positive gambling for the last 4 years, so there’s that. I like money, but I don’t do this for the money entirely. I enjoy being the winner. Having the guts to not be a pussy and take a chop so you walk away with a monetary gain that is meaningless in the long run vs saying I outlasted 187 people to be the best that 1 year, that’s bragging rights. What’s more important? If you have children and don’t have any money, money is paramount. If you’re a 40 year old lonesome loser, you don’t give a shit about much. I say that jokingly, but the money doesn’t change my life. Let’s get those gambling juices flowing!

In actuality, here is what I responded with.
