What a last couple days! Arominik. Week 1 of NFL. Serena’s tirade. Justin Rose meltdown. First night back of league bowling. Week long vacation.
I’ll start with the feeling of trying to remove yourself for a week for a family vacation. You can’t. Emails never stop hitting my inbox and there is no one at work who is going to handle needed situations. It makes you feel like a worker bee even when you’re away, you still feel like you need to be there. I’m doing my best though to try to get away from it all.
Adam told me to make a wager at the beginning of the BMW championship on Justin Rose at 12-1. I made another bet on him Friday when he was 11-1. After Saturday’s round it looked like he was going to win the tournament on a wash out. This had me upping my bets on Rose to the point if he hit on 18, I would have won about $500 with a $150 dollar investment (his odds were 2-1 after day 3). I ended up hedging a bit on Keegan on 18, but my lord, that should have been a W. Losing those is a thrill, and you’d like to think you’ll turn up on the right side of them once in a while.
The aggregate of my NFL bets got off to a strong start with another thrilling big bet on the Packers over. I didn’t bet the Monday night games for some reason, but at least the account is moderately healthy again. I got crushed on DK which tends to be a common theme, but as Gourlay says, “the only way to get back to even is to keep betting.” My fantasy teams were 2-2 and these are the weeks where everyone pays the most attention, but we all know leagues are won in week 9 and beyond.
I’ll briefly touch on the bullshit that was Serena Williams. As a white male, and with tongue in cheek, she has to check her privilege. Whether men get away with doing whatever she did isn’t the point of acting like a child. Watching the best woman tennis player in the world cry because she was getting her ass kicked is why people don’t respect women’s sports.
I’ll close with our bowling team getting our assed kicked on the first night of league. The league managed to get 16 teams which I put as a goal when they made me President 1 year ago. Our team had what I imagine will be the worst week of the 3o week season.
