This will be THE MOST boring post I’ve ever written.

I started playing chess online almost exactly a year ago.

In that time, I’ve played 3964 games; 2933 on Lichess.org and 1031 on Chess.com.

I started as a total noob, around a 950 rating on Lichess which is REALLY bad. My rating today is 1603 on Lichess and 1332 on Chess.com.

Some good old chess humor.

Chess is one of those things where the elation you feel when you play well is ~10x outweighed by the anger you feel when you play poorly.

When I win, I’m like “Good, I should win, this guy’s a fucking idiot,”, but when I lose, it’s like “Wow, how the FUCK did this dotard beat me“.

Despite that, I haven’t lost interest. In fact, I’m probably more into it now than at any point over the last year. Until I’ve completely plateaued, I’ll keep playing often. It’s fulfilling to see progress.

Is there an end goal? No, not really. I made one of my 2019 goals to reach a 1400 on Lichess and I’m at 1600.

Maybe Tom and I should host a best-of-25 all-day series for $1000. THAT would be good blog content. Probably not surprisingly we’re very close in rating.

Challenge me if you’re not too much of a cuck – covyandmelon on Lichess and Chess.com.
