This post will be a sweet humble-brag.
I ran a 5k race on Saturday morning. It was 50 degrees, raining, and windy. Being the alpha that I am, I won the race in 16:48.
The prize for first place was a $500 PUMA gift card. Wat. Why so much? Who the hell needs $500 to PUMA?
Now I’m sitting here and don’t know what to do with the money. I could get 300 pairs of socks? Or maybe this dank track jacket for just $170?Please someone do the work for me and find the best thing.
To briefly speak on my running / the race (I saved this for the end since I know no one cares), it went about as well as I could’ve hoped.
It boiled down to me and the second place guy about half way through. I felt good, he fell off a step, so I went hard and that was enough.
The course was pancake flat but I’d guess the conditions slowed it down 15-30 seconds. It also appears to be ~10 seconds long. Not sure how accurate that is, but that would imply it was worth a 16:10 – 16:30, which is what it felt like honestly.
I’ve run ~50 miles a week the last two weeks and feel great really. The injury that usually gives me trouble seems to be under control.
I’m doing the Rothman 8k and based on this race, I’m optimistic.

Get $400’s worth of running clothes-you’ll be set for a long time-and then give the rest of the money as a Christmas gift to someone who deserves a gift card with a good amount on it.
And I’m running the half so I think that’s the same morning as the 8k. Probably won’t see you, but best of luck! That’s a nice 5k time leading up to it.
